Schindler's list response

Schindler's List was movie directed by Steven Spielberg starring Liam Neeson about the WWII Holocaust. Schindler (Neeson) was a Nazi industrialist who made pots and pans and later made shells for the Nazi tanks. Throughout the movie, Schindler becomes more accustomed and sympathetic towards the Jews. He ends up making a list of Jews who he saves from concentration camps to work in his factory.

Power: To me, power is the ability to command people with undying loyalty. To Goethe, power is the ability to take lives without a care. To Schindler, power is the ability to take lives, but choosing not to. Goethe misused his power by killing the Jews from his balcony.
Schindler went from an anti-hero to hero when the man came into his office thanking him for saving his life by putting him in the factory. I feel that was the turning point in Schindler's "transformation".
I think that this film was very effective, because it wasn't short on the blood and violence. The most repulsive part was when the Nazi's had a tower of burning Jew bodies.

Barack Obama on Iraq

From Barack Obama's Iraq views, I learned a lot of great insight on why we should pull out of Iraq. Since the "surge" more then a 1000 troops have died. Casualties have decreased since 2006, but the Iraqi government have done nothing to help themselves. Also focusing on Iraq have strained nearly two million troops, and have diverted our attention from Afghanistan making it harder to catch Osama Bin Ladin. We spent 2.7 trillion dollars on the war which has lasted longer then World War I, World War II, and The Civil War. Yet at the same time, we are no more safe. A phased withdrawal 1 or 2 brigades a month will get us out of Iraq in 16 months. Applying pressure on the Iraqi government will help ensure that Iraq starts to help itself.

Questions I still have after reading Obama's stance:

What are Obama's views on McCain's views?

How will Obama pressure Iraq?

What Obama do about Syria and Iran as McCain plans to do?

John McCain on Iraq

From John McCain's Iraq views, I learned a lot of great insight on why we should stay in Iraq. We should mainly stay in Iraq for Iraq. We have to stay there until Iraq has secured a prosperous, stable and democratic state. When Iraqis can protect themselves, we can remove ourselves. The best way to start this is to use a "surge" of troops to enact a counterinsurgency plan. Also, we need to get Syria and Iran to get out of the picture, they are only aiding the chaos by providing weapons to terrorists.

I still have a few questions after reading this article:
What does McCain have to say about Obama's views?
How will McCain prevent Syria and Iran?
What kind of effect will staying in Iraq take on the soldiers?

Times Website

From this Times article, I learned a lot about how to pull out of Iraq and the pros and cons of withdrawing. From the eyes of the Bush administration, by pulling out of Iraq, we'd unleash a chaotic bloodbath between the Sunni's and the Shi'ites. By pulling out of Iraq, the US casualties would plummet, and we would save ten billion dollars a month we spend on the war. The best (or least worst) way to pull out would have to be a slow and steady withdrawal. This course of action would limit US casualties. This method, would be a very long and drawn out process. Pulling 30000 troops and personnel would take ten months. Then there is another 50000 civilians who would want to leave with the troops. With about 45000 ground vehicles needing to be brought back to the US could take a considerable amount of time.

I still have some questions after reading this article:
What are the Presidential candidates views on pulling out of Iraq?
What are native Iraqi civilian views on withdrawing?
What are the surrounding countries views on The US removing itself from Iraq?
